Greek teacher
I accidentally found myself in a language classroom 13 years ago and immediately loved it. Guiding people through their process of learning a new language is like looking at the world through a fresh set of eyes. I find teaching Greek especially enjoyable because it allows me to make good use of my nerdiness about my language and culture: it is my world that we explore together! Watching my students become confident using such a challenging, beautiful language and developing strong bonds with Greek culture is a magical experience. My passion is for discovering and bringing into the classroom extra-curricular material (like old songs and series, games and comics) that make the classes fun, motivating and easier for people with diverse literacies.
Brief CV
Vasso has always been a Greek language, literature and culture enthusiast. She has worked as a language teacher (English and Greek) since 2007, first at Omiros Schools in Athens and now at Kookoovaja, and as a researcher and lecturer at the Department of Media and Culture at Utrecht University (2015-2020). She holds Bachelor’s degrees in English and Greek Language and Literature (with honours) and in Theatre Studies from the University of Athens (Greece), a Master’s in Cultural Policy, Management and Communication from Panteion University (Greece) and a Research Master’s in Gender and Ethnicity from Utrecht University. She is currently a PhD researcher at the Department of Literature and Art at Maastricht University.
