Are you planning a vacation in Italy and would like to communicate in Italian? Or ready for taking your Italian language skills to the next level? Kookoovaja offers Italian courses from beginner to advanced level. Each class has a maximum of 6 participants, which ensures you get the most out of a class. You get a lot of time to speak, while you can learn from classmates who have other questions and experiences. The first three levels will also cover the cultural, geographical and culinary aspects of the 20 regions of Italy. Some course topics may vary depending on the students’ needs and/or interests.

Information

A class takes two hours and happens once per week. Classes can take place from Monday to Friday in the evenings after 17h00 or in the weekend. The academic year is divided into three blocks and each block has a vacation week. See practical info for specific dates.

In addition to the main offered courses, Valentina also offers workshops and courses on request. Think of conversation courses, individual courses, courses with vocabulary for specific uses, courses for Italian-speaking children, etc.

Note: With 2-3 participants a course price of 280,- pp is valid.
With 3-6 participants a class takes two hours. With 2 participants a class takes one and a half hour.


Detailed course description

Italian for vacation

Are you planning a vacation to Italy and you want to be able to say more than “pizza” and “ciao”? Kookoovaja offers an Italian course focused on specific vocabulary and conversations that are useful on vacation.

In this course, we will study the basics of Italian, namely how to introduce ourselves, how to greet somebody, and how to ask questions. We will learn how to place an order in a café or restaurant, how to ask for directions and information about hotels, museums and camping, how to book a day-trip, and how to take a taxi and public transports.

Additionally, we will have extra material about Italian culture (e.g. art, monuments, geography, and must-see), which will be determined by the students’ interests and holiday destinations.

Required knowledge: no knowledge of Italian is required, but some knowledge of Dutch or English is necessary for the beginning.

beginner

In this beginner course we will learn the basics of Italian. We will start with the sounds of the language and we will learn how to talk about ourselves and have small daily conversations.

Specifically, we will focus on: introducing ourselves and talking about our hobby’s, placing an order in a café or a restaurant, talking about work, making appointments and giving or asking for directions. Additionally, we will have extra material about Italian culture (e.g. music, food, gesture, monuments, geography).

The method that is used is Con Piacere 1, together with exercises and activities from other sources.

Required knowledge: no knowledge of Italian is required, but some knowledge of Dutch or English is necessary for the beginning.

Low intermediate

After a quick recap of the topics studied during the beginner course, this course will continue with more complex situations and we will start talking about the past.

On this level, we will become familiar with the following themes: talking about your body and your feelings, talking about your health and going to the doctor, housing, accommodation and cohabitation, and talking about the recent past. Additionally, we will have extra material about Italian culture (e.g. music, food, gestures, monuments, geography).

The method that is used is Con Piacere 2, together with exercises and activities from other sources.

Required knowledge: It is expected that you have successfully completed a course up to A1. If you are not sure about your level, please contact the teacher.

Intermediate

After a quick recap of the previous course’s topics, we will continue with more complex sentences and more advanced vocabulary and grammar.

Specifically, we will learn how to talk about situations that happened in the recent and far past and talk about future projects and wishes. We will engage into conversations, where we will learn how to give our opinions. Additionally, we will have extra material about Italian culture (e.g. art, music, food, gestures, monuments, geography).

The method that is used is Con Piacere 3, together with exercises and activities from other sources.

Required knowledge: It is expected that you have successfully completed a course up to A2. If you are not sure about your level, please contact the teacher.

Upper intermediate

During this course, which continues from Intermediate, we will learn how to understand and engage in longer conversations about specific topics in order to achieve a level of fluency that allows us to easily interact with native speakers.

Themes we become familiar with at this level are: hypothetical situations and their concerning verb tenses, adverbs and their concerning verb tenses, Italian literature, theatre, cinema, art and history, talking about our problems, cause-and-effect and its concerning conjunctions, news items, and debate.

The method that is used is Come prepararsi all’esame del CELI 3 -livello B2-, together with exercises and activities from other sources.

Required knowledge: It is expected that you have successfully completed a course up to B1. If you are not sure about your level, please contact the teacher.

Advanced

This final course will analyse and study all the different forms of the Italian language. We will start from the main differences between oral and written Italian, then we will examine in depth different kinds of sectoral language, such as legal, medical economical, philosophical, and political. At this point, the students are always welcome to propose topics according to their interests.

Further topics we become familiar with are: different writing techniques (review, critical essays, formal correspondence), figures of speech, idiomatic expressions, Italian folklore, dialects, accents and slang.

The method that is used is Come prepararsi all’esame del CELI 4 -livello C1-, together with exercises and activities from other sources.
