I’ve always had a broad interest in other languages and cultures. That has lead to focusing on language in my studies, and also learning a few foreign languages myself. Fascinated by the unknown, but so special to discover a new world and slowly make it your own. In my experience learning a language is the key to a country, its people, and culture. During my studies I always looked for the connection with society, which made it a logical step to become a teacher myself. I take fulfillment from guiding people through the same process, and enjoy being ‘on the other side’ of it. For me working together, speaking and working in an interactive way are important in a lesson: this way learning a new language is as fun as possible!
Before she started studying, Brecht has lived in Bologna, Italy, for half a year to learn in Italian (2010). After that she studied Language and Culture Studies, focusing on linguistics, in which she graduated with honors (2014). In the meantime, Brecht followed several language courses, and did an Erasmus exchange in Siena, Italy (2014). From 2016 – 2021 she worked amongst other things as a teacher for
TopTaal, and obtained a teachers degree in 2018. Brecht will continue working as an independent teacher in Utrecht.
