Do you need help with your English academic papers and presentations? Then this is the right course for you. Academic English is designed for students at various stages of their academic career including undergraduate, master’s and PhD students.
What will I learn?
This course is very open to your needs and questions, so every student can learn from the others. During the 4 group lessons we will cover the basics academic skills such as writing standards for essays, critically analysing academic texts, creating theoretical argumentation, structuring academic papers and other needs expressed by students. During the 4 individual tutorials you will be helped to apply the techniques learned during the group classes as well as with any other academic concerns or areas for improvement.
The course schedule will alternate every week between 2-hour group lessons and 1-hour individual tutorials. Each group consists of 3-4 people and the individual tutorials will be planned according to the students’ scheduling.
The schedule of this course is aligned with the Utrecht University academic calendar so we can focus on both current and future writing projects in an effort to provide the opportunity for both long term and short-term academic success.
Evening classes
We offer these courses in the evenings at 17:15-19:15 or 19:30-21:30. The exact day and time will be decided at the beginning of each block on the basis of the students’ availability.
On-line or off-line?
Our courses can be offered either on-line or in the classroom/hybrid class. During the application process you can give your preference. After applying we set up an intake meeting. During the intake meeting we discuss your goals and expectation for the course and we assess your level. If you have any questions, we can also answer them in that conversation.
